As I was signing client anniversary cards for the month of August, my engineering brain noticed an increasing number of “WOW” anniversaries. It’s not uncommon for us to have some 20–30-year anniversaries each month, but August was different. The numbers were much higher: 45 years, 49, followed by 53, 54, 56, 57, 58, 60 and finally a 64-year anniversary! The sheer number amazes me and reminds me how fortunate we are to work with clients who have been together for such a long time.
This past weekend, I attended the funeral of a longtime friend and client. He was an engineer, and we shared a lot of similar passions like Aggie football, flying, soccer and especially family. He would often call the office and ask about the markets, but he always wanted to know how my family was doing. During the service, many of the family spoke of the legacy he left behind, how he encouraged them in their faith and how he invested in relationships. It was a great reminder of the impact we can have on the next generation both within our family and our work family. My hope is to use this opportunity to help others grow in the future.
Regardless of where you are right now in life, we have all benefited from close relationships. They often lift us up when things aren’t going our way and celebrate with us when we reach milestones. True relationships stand the test of time and are a gift. Let’s celebrate them today and strive to develop more in the future.
